Fresenius Kidney Care Tops CMS Five-Star Ratings

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently issued its annual Dialysis Facility Compare Five-Star Quality Rating System results, and Fresenius Kidney Care has achieved the largest number of top-rated Five-Star dialysis centers in the country.

FreseniusRx is a committed care partner with all of our Fresenius Kidney Care clinics. Patients on dialysis often are prescribed 10 to 12 different medications[1], each with its own adherence regimens. These medications are an important piece of the puzzle for patient health.

Our pharmacists focus on renal care, which uniquely positions us to go beyond filling prescriptions and provide support to nephrologists, dietitians and other healthcare providers to properly monitor patient dosing and adherence.

How FreseniusRx Supports Clinic Quality Measures

The CMS rating system is based on several quality measures that rate patient care and experience and is pulled from Medicare claims, clinic-reported data and a patient survey.

Through our medication adherence programs, 24/7 access to pharmacists, convenient medication delivery and payment options, and more, FreseniusRx coordinates care with clinics to support some of these measures, including controlling mineral levels and avoiding hospitalizations.

As healthcare moves from fee-for-service to value-based care, FreseniusRx is dedicated to being an integrated care partner in the treatment of patients on dialysis. Fresenius Medical Care North America is the largest participant in CMS’s Comprehensive End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Care Initiative with six ESRD Seamless Care Organizations (ESCOs) across the country—more than any other dialysis provider.

Our pharmacy is piloting a program that brings a pharmacist into the treatment center, chairside, to proactively review FreseniusRx patient medications, assess needs and coordinate with physicians to focus on the patient’s whole health.

“As the leader in kidney care innovation, our mission is to improve the quality of life for every patient, every day, and that means imagining new models of personalized medicine beyond what current policy envisions,” said Dr. Franklin Maddux, Fresenius Medical Care North America’s Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of Clinical and Scientific Affairs. “Our Five-Star performance reflects the dedication and clinical excellence of every one of our caregivers, nurses, physician partners, and clinical innovators. We are proud of these results and will strive to continually improve.”
